Gin Yu is a Taiwanese-born, Brazilian-raised film producer, writer, and director. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a specialization in Cinema from the Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado in São Paulo, Brazil, Gin moved to Los Angeles, California, where she participated in multiple film sets.
She eventually moved to Houston, Texas where she met her future collaborator, Alex “Tonic” Hall, at the Houston Community College. Propelled by their desire to create and share stories, Gin and Alex founded Gin & Tonic Films, a Houston/Chicago-based independent film production house to bring their visions to screens of all sizes.
Gin is a recipient of the 2015 Skye’s The Limit Award by the Skye McCole Bartusiak Foundation, and under Gin & Tonic Films has produced and directed multiple short projects, one of which, The Replacement (2013), won second runner-up at the Houston 48 Hour Film Project. Most recently, she served as Line Producer in They (2017), a feature-length film by Anahita Ghazvinizadeh premiering at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Gin is currently in development for Gin & Tonic’s first feature-film.
